The Microdermabrasion Process

Microdermabrasion is an interesting alternative to some of the other treatments that are designed to address skin imperfections. With microdermabrasion, no chemicals are used, no incisions are made and no substances are injected into the patient’s body. Dr. Sliwin uses a specialized tool with microscopic grains to abrade the epidermis or top layer of skin, stimulating the production of new skin cells.

Through this process, dead skin cells are removed and several of the visible signs of aging, like sun damage, some blemishes and fine lines are also removed.

Microdermabrasion also stimulates the creation of collagen, which is an essential factor in healthy, youthful-looking skin.

Toronto Microdermabrasion Fast Facts:

  • Microdermabrasion is essentially an “all natural” procedure and ideal for anyone sensitive to chemicals or fillers.
  • Mild swelling or redness is common, but will dissipate within a couple hours.
  • Microdermabrasion is effective for all skin colours.
  • It is wise to use moisturizers after the procedure and avoid sun exposure for a few days.
  • Microdermabrasion is not effective for any conditions affecting the deeper layers of skin, and is not suitable for people with certain skin conditions.

Who Will Benefit From Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is suitable for just about anyone with sun damaged skin or unwanted pigmentation, or even dull-looking skin that suffers from the effects of pollution and similar environmental factors. Since the procedure is relatively gentle and no foreign bodies are introduced, just about everyone can benefit.

A New Start with Youthful Skin

Microdermabrasion will create that youthful glow that you may have been missing, but it won’t eliminate skin issues forever. It is a great new start, but you will continue to age normally and your skin will still be exposed to the environment. Following a healthy lifestyle will maintain your results for a longer period of time.
