Chemical Peels

What Is an Aesthetic Chemical Peel?

An aesthetic chemical peel, sometimes called a lunchtime peel, is a cosmetic procedure that utilizes a chemical solution to help smooth out the texture of the skin on your face. The solution used causes the top layers of skin to peel and flake off, and the new skin that is regenerated to replace it is usually softer and smoother than the old skin.

A deep chemical peel or dermabrasion are surgical procedures that are meant to deal with deep wrinkles or creases around the mouth and face. Initial healing is complete within 10 days and the skin needs to be protected for months until normal pigmentation returns.

For more information please view our patient education video that shows the procedure (non graphically) and answers common questions, please click here.

Toronto Chemical Peel Fast Facts:

  • There is no downtime associated with the aesthetic chemical peel procedure.
  • The results of the deep chemical peel are permanent, but normal aging still occurs.
  • The new skin after a deep chemical peel usually requires extra moisturizer as it heals completely, and is temporarily more sensitive to sun exposure.

Reasons for a Chemical Peel

The aesthetic chemical peel treatment is used for fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging, sun damage or genetics, and even very mild scarring or certain kinds of acne may respond favorably. Also, if your skin appears rough and weathered or you have pigmentation issues such as freckles or sun spots that you want eliminated, a chemical peel may be a viable solution.

Youthful Results

The goal with most cosmetic treatments is to wipe away signs of aging and restore a youthful glow to your skin. And since so much damage and aging occur in the top few layers of your skin, a chemical peel is an ideal choice to reach your goals.

Not all chemical peels are right for all skin types or all people, but after your consultation with Dr. Sliwin, you’ll know if this treatment is right for you, and which combination of chemicals will get the job done.
