Breast Augmentation with Breast Implants
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure geared towards enhancing and enlarging patients’ breasts. An implant is placed behind the breast, usually under the muscle. Dr. Sliwin performs more than 200 breast augmentation procedures every year using either saline (salt water) or the newer Cohesive Gel implants.
Will breast augmentation surgery leave a scar and how can the healing be accelerated? Yes, there is scar that fades with time and is located under the areola. We offer a product called Mepiform, a silicone-based sheet to be applied over the area for speeding up healing, preventing discolouration and thickening of the scar. If the scar is still red, then cortisone shots to break up the scar tissue or IPL laser therapy can be used to improve healing.
How will pregnancy affect the results of breast implants surgery? Pregnancy can cause sagging of breast tissue.
How much time off will I need after my surgery? 1–2 weeks.
Are the results permanent? Over time, your breasts do continue to change due to aging and gravity. However, you will be able to retain your new look longer if you maintain your weight and keep a healthy lifestyle.
Does cosmetic breast surgery affect my risk of breast cancer? No. There is no scientific evidence that implants cause or affect.
Do I need to stay overnight? No, however, follow-up visits to the clinic will be required so Dr. Sliwin can monitor recovery.
When can I return to doing exercise? 2 weeks light exercise and 6 weeks for full weights and aerobics.
Do I need to wear a special garment? A sports bra is necessary to limit movement and keep the breasts lifted.
