Most Popular Plastic Surgeries For Men

Some people view plastic surgery as largely a service for women. But statistics suggest otherwise. Recent years have seen a huge boom in the number of men who have elected to have cosmetic procedures. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of cosmetic procedures for men increased by more than 106% in the United States from 1997 to 2012.

Plastic Surgeries For Men

Many men want to undergo plastic surgery to look fitter, younger, and more attractive. This benefits men in their personal lives, but the primary motive for many is to stay competitive in the business world. In many industries, looking youthful and energetic gives people a leg up in their career. Here are some of the most popular plastic surgeries for men.

Nose Reshaping

Nose reshaping was the most popular plastic surgery for men in the United States in 2012, as it was in many countries for many years. Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) can alter or fix many aspects of one’s nose with which he is dissatisfied. Nose reshaping can reduce excessive width or length, correct crookedness, beaked nose, bulbous tip and flaring nostrils.

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) was performed on 31,000 American men in 2009. Most men who elect for this surgery do so to reduce signs of aging. Eyelid surgery can remove excess skin and fat. Surgeons can also eliminate parts of muscle and fatty deposits, as well as fix drooping eyelids and lighten dark circles under the eyes.

Liposuction

Liposuction has become increasingly popular amongst men. Liposuction involves the insertion of an instrument under the skin which breaks up fat and vacuums it out to eliminate unwanted fat in patients with stable body weight. Liposuction is not intended to treat obesity, but it can have permanent and positive effects on the shape of one’s body.

Gynecomastia

Breast reduction to eliminate gynecomastia has become increasingly popular, with a five percent increase of men having the procedure done in 2012 as compared to 2011. The surgery removes fat, glands, or a combination of the two in order to eliminate signs of gynecomastia. It is an outpatient procedure, so men do not have to fret about the inconvenience of inpatient surgery. This is particularly popular among models and bodybuilders.
