6 Plastic Surgeries Popular Among Athletes

It may surprise you to read that athletes often choose to have plastic surgery procedures. Athletes—just like the rest of us—choose cosmetic surgeries to preserve their youthful appearance, or get a bit of extra help for that perfect, toned body.

Plastic Surgery

Cosmetic surgeries are very effective to perfect that public image for athletes under constant scrutiny.

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most popular surgical procedures today. This procedure is often requested by retired athletes who want that extra help in removing stubborn deposits of fat. When the body hits its ideal body fat percentage, it often stops responding to diet and exercise. This is the most effective way to help fit and healthy patients with a stabilized body weight minimize any remaining fatty areas.

Pectoral Implants

Pectoral implants, a body sculpting procedure which improves the chest contour, is popular among male athletes whose upper bodies are on view. Swimmers, body builders, and even MMA fighters have been known to enhance their chest with surgery.

Buttock augmentation

Buttock implant surgery is another popular choice for athletes who compete in very tight clothing, or bathing suits. This is becoming especially popular for female athletes.

Breast reduction surgery

Many female sports stars choose to have a breast reduction to improve their performance. Large breasts can cause discomfort for women participating in many sports, including tennis, track and field, and golf. Additionally, breast reduction allows for greater freedom of movement and improved agility.

Romanian tennis star Simona Halep had breast reduction surgery in 2009, making her one of the many females in her industry looking to get a better motion range of her upper body by reducing her body mass.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty surgery, also known as a nose job, is frequently required to repair facial injuries for athletes in vigorous contact sports. Boxing and martial arts are the most common examples, but any sport with fast-flying balls, pucks or sticks also often lead to broken noses.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty surgery, or ear surgery, is another surgery needed prominently by boxers and MMA fighters. Continual punches to the head can damage ear cartilage and tissues. This leads to trauma in the tissues, causing blood clots. The damaged tissue results in the disfiguring condition known as cauliflower ear. Otoplasty surgery is also often requested by rugby players, as players do not wear helmets in the often-violent contact sport.
